Okay, now that the shock of having a 4th surgery is out of my system, I'll fill you all in.
As I said in a previous post, his gadget was having problems and we went in on Monday to see the Surgeon.
When we got there, 3 other patients were waiting to see the doctors and the sign said it would be 15 to 20 minute wait. J doesn't like waiting long, so it was a good thing that we brought the iPad to keep him busy. We had just started to play Tozzle, a favorite, when our name was called. That's right, we went before the 3 that had been waiting. Dr. Surgeon was waiting for us basically. They took J's weight and he'd lost about 8 pounds since his ER visits in June, and was complaining that he didn't feel good. But J was in a pretty good mood, which was amazing considering the past few days.
They did an assessment, then the Surgeon came in with a resident. The surgeon made some jokes about us missing seeing him and we made jokes back about his "beautiful" work and how it's not where it should be. J let him do a quick touch and then the surgeon and his little resident went out of the room. Not ever a good sign!
He came back in with 3 options. Here they are:
1st - let it go and see if it comes out...eventually (NO!)
2nd - surgery; this time using the pig skin to reinforce it not moving. The surgeon would pull it out while another surgeon would attach the skin.
3rd - surgery; but the stoma on the other side and see if the other side would work better.
WHAT?!
The 2nd option sounded the best to all of us under the conditions that J doesn't improve. If it comes out and gets the right coloring, then the surgeon will re-assist and we'll go from there.
Well, it came out for about 2 days, then went back in.
The surgeon is going out of town, but his partner is on alert in case J's condition worsens and it stops working completely and closes like in December (NOT GOOD!)
So we are just praying that it will "hold on" until the 30th.
We call the 27th for the time of the surgery.
