Set back - Day 3

We've had a little set back.  Some errors have been made by the nurses, on accident. 

First error: Thursday afternoon they started giving J his meds through the feeding tube.  The 4:00 ones went in just fine.  The nurse made sure to flush it, no problems.  Then I went home and Dad came up to give me a little break. When the 8:00 meds came, the nurse wanted to give J a different form of his behavioral meds.  Dad said no, that he needed to sprinkles (same meds, just different form) Evidently the nurse didn't flush it or put it with enough water.  This caused a HUGE blockage.  Problem...no food can now go in. They worked on it all the Thursday night and into the wee hours of the morning.  Still nothing would work.

So the surgeon told me options; another surgery, leave it blocked until J's stomach attaches to the lining (4 to 6 weeks) then switch out the tube; but that would mean no feedings and more weight loss, or a pic line to start feedings that way.  

Ugh...we went the pic line way, but as of today, they still hadn't started the feeding.

Then 2nd error: Friday; while trying to suck out the crap in J's mouth somehow the o2 was disconnected. It took a long while to get him at least to 88%, but he kept dropping. So sometime Friday night/Saturday early morning, they did a x-ray and guess what...yup...there is an infection in one or both lungs, the nurse wasn't sure.  So he's on the heavy duty 1x a day antibiotic through the IV. Due to this new infection, they removed J's menu from soft foods to no foods/minimal to non liquid. Even ice chips have to be VERY small.  

So, we have no food going in the mouth and no food going in the pic line.  Awesome!

I do have to say that today, Saturday, he was talking a little saying that he wanted food, ice, juice.  It breaks our hearts telling him he will have to wait.  Holy crap, he has been through (fill in the blank, please)

Hopefully tonight they will start the food through the pic and he can get some rest.  Dad is with him, so I'm off.
